The sacrifice on Mt. Moriah is as clear a passage as one can find of the atoning death of Christ. Christ is in this passage as the lamb provided in Isaac's place. He is the Angel of the Lord who speaks from heaven. He is pre-figured in Isaac's metaphoric resurrection. But above all, we are reminded of His Sonship in the repeated words, "your son, your only son." We are seeing a picture of the relationship of the Father to the Son. What God does not require of Abraham, He Himself does on our behalf.
