 erhaps
it seems insignificant . . .
the question “Do
you know Christ?”
Life is busy enough, and its pressures
may take up
all of your time. Maybe you believe you have found answers
to life’s questions somewhere else.
Or maybe you are content with the life that you have,
and do not want to be interrupted by religious
considerations.
After all, we live in a day when many struggles of the past
have been overcome.
We are well-fed, well-housed, well-educated and
well-entertained.
What place is there in such a fulfilling life for questions
about God?
Maybe
life is not so fulfilling after all. There are many great
things in this world: time with friends and family, the joy
of accomplishment, the pursuit of finer things. But in
the end, if you follow these pursuits only to enjoy them
yourself, you may find that they turn stale. A life lived in
pursuit of your own enjoyment is ultimately not a fulfilling
life. Questions begin to creep in on the mind, perhaps even
robbing you of sleep:
Is
there anything more than the life I’m living?
Is it all just over when I die?
Will anything I do make a difference?
Is there a true reason for anything I do?
The most important question of all is
this: where can I find a definite answer to
the serious questions of life? In our day many doubt that
there are true answers. However, for thousands of years
answers to these and other questions have
been found in the Bible.
It
is easy to laugh at the idea of taking the Bible seriously;
so many people do laugh! Nevertheless, the fact remains that
the teachings of the Bible have withstood centuries of
change. Nations have risen and fallen, languages have
changed,
and philosophies have crumbled during that time.
Still, the teachings of the Bible continue to provide
clear direction to those who follow them.
This is an astounding record. No other set of ideas has
withstood so many changes and been transmitted successfully
to so many distinct cultures. The reason is simple:
the Bible gives clear, direct, true
answers to the questions that concern us.
It is a most unusual book, one that had its origin not with
men, but with God. It is the only source for answers
to the questions that trouble those living
for their own enjoyment.
What does the Bible teach? It tells us about God and His
relationship to this world.
It tells us why we are here, and it tells us how our lives
have gone wrong when we thought we were doing what is right.
Most importantly, it gives us real answers, a blueprint for
how life can be restored to its original purpose. The
teachings of the Bible show us how to live a life of
meaning.
Will
you take the time to consider these answers, to seek
real meaning
in your own life?
