Who is Jesus? Although many consider this a triviality, it is in fact among the most important questions in life. The correct answer has eternal consequence. The Apostle John, who wrote the most unique of the four gospels, consciously arranged his account as an answer to this question. From beginning to end the reader is confronted with answers to this question - answers which build upon one another and climax in the great answer, in the words of Thomas: "My Lord, and my God!" John answers this question not in the style of a theological treatise, but in that of a theological biography. He tells the story of Jesus' ministry by way of demonstrating the truth of his claims about Jesus' identity. Consequently, the reader learns not only of the Person of Jesus, but also of His Work. Long accounted one of the most precious treasures we have in all the Scripture, this gospel presents a challenge to the unbelieving heart while calling out the righteous to worship Christ.
